What to you photograph backstage of a performance? For a full performance of a stage show your backstage gallery would include images of : Makeup and hair in the dressing room ( I LOVE a mirror shot), hanging out in green rooms or other backstage areas, photos from the wings of the action onstage and off. And anything else that goes on. Do you warm up the company on stage before getting ready? Let me know and I’ll ensure that’s documented.
-
Why document rehearsals?Social media for one. Rehearsals are great content to promote your company. This is also the space where people are usually most relaxed and adding giggles and fun to the process. So the candid shots from these type situations is always fun. It also documents an important step in what you do!
-
How many days do you suggest for a stage show? This is completely up to you and your needs! If you are looking to document the full process. I have been involved with productions from initial meet and greets and first read throughs to rehearsals, sitz probe, tech and dress rehearsal then final performance. And variations of the above. Sometimes I’m there a day, others I’m in and out for the whole process.
-
How do you make sure you aren’t in the way backstage?Good question. I come to backstage shoots dressed in blacks and dance sneakers. My cameras are set to silent mode and I talk to the team both creative, backstage and often performers too about areas that are busy and where in the show that happens. I have been backstage in one way or another since I was 5 so know how to stay out of the way while still getting the shot.
-
Do you photograph solo performers?Of course! Its hard to cover all the options in wording but I welcome any type of performance and arts! Get in touch and we can create a package just for you!
-
What is a Branding Package?A branding package will consist of a headshot of you and your team combined with a comprehensive documentation of your business. This can be making products or food, the physical location, the ideas and planning process… Whatever imagery you can envision on your website.
-
What is a social media package?Social media top up packages consist of me coming in for an hour or two and documenting a bulk run of images you can use for your instagram, blog, website etc. This package also runs as a subscription for a slight discount. Each month (or whatever frequency works for your needs) I come and top up your gallery with more images for you to use for socials making your life a whole lot easier!

What are the different types of shoots like?First we have your more traditional photoshoot. This means we meet up at a pretty location and play around and capture some gorgeous photos of you. The second version is an In Home shoot. This is a great way to capture what your life looks like right now. Your home, your things, your family, even your pets. We take some fun photos on the lounge or in the yard or driveway but for the most part just document life at home. If you are worried about being natural in this type of session think of some fun activities you would do as a family/couple. Dance party, Boardgames, making a cake or biscuits. Anything that feels right to you. I’ll happily brainstorm ideas when we start to organise your session. This type of session is also great for newborns. It means you are at home with easy access to all your things. You also get to show off the baby’s room and it makes it much easier if we need to stop and take a breastfeeding break. Newborn sessions are a little more flexible to allow for this. The third option is taking this idea and sending it out into the “wild”. I call these my Adventure shoots. We head to the zoo or the playground at the park, go out for ice cream. These shoots incur and extra fee is there is a cost of entry for places like theme parks or the zoo. This will be quoted before booking. The In Home shoot and Adventure shoot can be combined into a longer “Day in the life” shoot. This would be for around 5-6 hours and we can talk through options for this. Just shoot through an email and we can start to plan! In short, your photoshoot can look however you want it to look! But my focus and what I believe is most important, is that your photos feel like you and show who you are together.

How should I dress for a session?Be comfortable. Dress for the weather. These are key! If we are exploring, rock the gumboots! At the beach? Go barefoot. Aside from these top tips… Avoid big logos or graphics. This ages you photos and pulls focus. I recommend to dress in a colour scheme if you are looking to blend with each other. Not matching per se. Just complimenting outfits. If you want assistance or inspiration for this I am more than happy to help and/or link you to a Pinterest board I’ve put together to help.
